Sylvie van Helden

Artist Bio

Sylvie van Helden was born in Montreal, Canada.  After spending her early childhood abroad, she settled in in the Midwest for a number of years.  In 2000, she moved from Ann Arbor to Baltimore to attend graduate school at the Maryland institute College of Art.  Upon graduating, van Helden taught art full-time at the college and high school levels for over 10 years. In 2014, she decided to focus more time on her studio practice.   Her practice has expanded and includes a number of exhibitions across the states in including: Maryland Art Place, Hillyer Art Space, the Painting Center in New York City, Mark Arts in Kansas, and most recently, The Autry Museum of the American West.
